Thermo Scientific is pleased to offer supported customers access to the Digital Science Support FTP server at ftps://support.thermoinformatics.com

Customers will have a single login shared with the eService portal, this Support Resource Site and the FTP server. The service offers many advantages:

  • FTP Sites / home directories are created on the fly for every supported eservice login
  • A README file is created and placed in the home directory so customers can be sure they're in their own directory.
  • The server is located in a tier 2 data center with great network connectivity for faster upload and downloads speeds.
  • Enhanced security using FTP over implicit SSL (FTPs : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTPS ), encrypting control and data channels.
The FTP File Explorer is now available as a web-based view to your personal FTP area. This interface allows for simple upload and download of files exchanged with Digital Science Support and Services analysts.

There is a 250 MB upload size limit for transfers through this page. If you need to send larger files, please continue to use the full FTP client.

IMPORTANT : The change to using FTPs (secure) from traditional FTP (unsecure) requires that customers will need to use an ftp client that supports the secure protocol. They will no longer be able to use the Windows Explorer, command line FTP or Internet Explorer. Wikipedia has an exhaustive list of FTP clients for various platforms including what platforms they support : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_FTP_client_software#Protocol_support (look for "FTPS (FTP over SSL)" column).

Firewall Considerations

In order to maintain compatibility with existing non-FTPS-aware clients, implicit FTPS is expected to listen on the IANA well known port 990/TCP for the FTPS control channel, and port 989/TCP for the FTPS data channel. The client will then open a data transfer channel on a random port from 49152-49406. All of these ports will need to be allowed for connections.

Example Client Configurations

Below is an example configuration screen for popular free clients which have been tested with the new site. Please note again, that customers *must* use a client; they will no longer be able to use the Windows Explorer, command line FTP or Internet Explorer.

NOTE: If you're having issues connecting, particularly from inside a Thermo Fisher Scientific Office or VPN, you can use the public IP Address : support.thermoinformatics.com [52.204.119.6] in place of the server name and it will allow you to connect.

Core FTP LE

http://www.coreftp.com/download.html

NOTE: Core FTP has a setting which must be turned on for compatibility with our FTP site. Please be sure to check the box for "Do not use MTDM for date/time." This prevents Core FTP from changing the last write date of files on the server to the file date of the source. When you use the source dates, the automated cleaning function on the server may immediately remove your uploaded files if they are more than 6 months old.
