Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager IDI 12.2

We are very pleased to announce the release of Thermo Scientific™ SampleManager IDI 12.2

SM-IDI is currently being used by a large number of our customers to connect SampleManager to SAP.

SM-IDI will download data from and upload data to SAP. SAP S/4HANA has a number of updates that needed to be developed within SM-IDI for our customer base to keep using the interface in combination with the new SAP S/4 HANA.

SAP S/4HANA OData API Support

SAP S/4HANA comes with a new API, using OData. This API is specific for the cloud version of SAP S/4HANA and is now supported by SM-IDI. The current support using the Netweaver connector will still be in place. The RFC Gateway Connector is removed from SM-IDI and no longer be supported.

SampleManager Workflow support

SampleManager has been using the new workflow engine for many years and finally SM-IDI is able to support those, instead of the Sample Templates (which are also still supported). This introduces a whole list of new capabilities to our customers that use SM-IDI.

Please review the Release Notes for more details.

Thermo Scientific™ Chromeleon™ CDS version 7.3 Released

It is with great pleasure that we announce the introduction of Thermo Scientific™ Chromeleon™ CDS version 7.3.

The hardware based old license dongle is no longer supported in Chromeleon 7.3 and has been replaced by a license code system. Details about the new license system can be found in the highlighted section below and in the Chromeleon 7.3 release notes.

This announcement only contains a few highlights; for a complete list of new features see the release notes, provided as an attachment. Here are the highlights of Chromeleon 7.3:

Control of Vanquish Core: This release introduces control of the new Thermo Scientific Vanquish Core UHPLC System and the new Vanquish Solvent Monitor. In addition, Chromeleon 7.3 provides diagnostic tests, the ability to schedule a diagnostic test (Health Check) and Method Transfer for the Vanquish Core instrument, as well as User Defined Programs for Vanquish UHPLC instruments.

Smart Audit Trail Review Framework: Chromeleon 7.3 facilitates the review of the data audit trail, by introducing audit trail events for tracking of configurable events in the data audit trail of sequences, including corresponding report tables and a data audit trail query.

Dongle Free Licensing: Licensing in Chromeleon 7.3 has changed from a dongle-based system to a license code system. Customers purchasing a new Chromeleon 7.3 system or upgrading from an earlier version will receive a Chromeleon 7.3 license code. This license code must be entered and activated using the Licenses section of the Chromeleon Administration Console.

Instrument Overview: The Instrument category of the Chromeleon 7 Console includes a new view which shows a status overview of all or of a subset of all the instruments in the Chromeleon domain. For each instrument, the instrument status includes details of any currently acquiring sequence(s), and the status of the instrument queue. Toolbar options allow you to quickly launch eWorkflows for the currently selected instrument or directly access the Queue and ePanel.

Chromeleon 7 Process Analyzer: Chromeleon 7.3 introduces the new Process Analyzer (PA) software, which has previously only been available in Chromeleon 6. Chromeleon 7.3 PA is designed to be similar in user interface and functionality to the Chromeleon 6 based application.

The software and release notes are available for download from the downloads area of the Support Resource Center.

Nautilus P1 Defect (All Versions)

I am writing to inform you of a Priority 1 defect that exists in Thermo Scientific™ Nautilus LIMS™ software. We classify a defect as “Priority 1” when the defect constitutes a safety or regulatory concern, derived from high severity and impact assessments.

Defect ID 124123 exists in all versions of Nautilus LIMS software:

The issue is that the seeded, out-of-box unit conversion expression between the ppb and ppm units is incorrectly configured as ppm/100. The correct unit conversion expression is ppm/1000. The issue would affect any results (specifically, the Formatted Result field in the Result table) that are converting from either ppb to ppm, or converting from ppm to ppb, unless the out-of-box unit expression previously was corrected by a LIMS user.

Likewise, if unit conversions between ppm and ppb were used for out-of-box amount tracking (via the Amount field in the Aliquot table), the associated amount calculations would be affected.

To correct the unit expression, open the Unit property page for the ppb unit (via the Environment/Units folder), change the Expression value to ppm/1000, and save the changes. Once corrected, the unit expression value will remain as configured, including after software upgrades.

Please contact Technical Support at support.informatics@thermofisher.com if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Kimberly Weldon, Ph.D.

Priority 1 (P1) defect SampleManager version 12.2. Defect ID 124032

Dear Customer,

I am writing to inform you of a Priority 1 (P1) defect that was introduced in Thermo ScientificTM SampleManager LIMSTM version 12.2.  Defects are classified as P1 when they constitute a potential safety or regulatory concern, assessed against our QMS Issue Classification Standard (QA-GS001).

The Defect ID is 124032, which encompasses three VGL file handling issues introduced as a result of the Unicode requirement in version 12.2.  However it is only the first scenario, described below, that is classified as a P1 defect:

The TRANSFER_BINARY_TO_SERVER VGL command corrupts the transferred file.  All other VGL file transfer commands are unaffected.  In the standard system this is only likely to be encountered when using components of type F.

The issue was identified through our professional services team where this VGL command was used within a services utility.  A code scan for use of the command in the standard system identified the issue would present itself when performing result entry for File type results through the client VGL result entry screens.  No customer or services personnel have yet reported encountering the P1 classified manifestation of the issue.

Defect ID 124032 has been resolved within the SampleManager LIMS 12.2 SP1 project, which is expected to be released in late 2019.  An informal patch is also going to be made available that could be applied to your 12.2 system should this issue affect you.

Please contact Technical Support at support.informatics@thermofisher.com should you have any questions or to request more information about the informal patch.

Sincerely,

Katie Evans, Senior Product Manager

katie.evans@thermofisher.com
